The opening scene in HIDDEN BUDDHAS takes place at Kōryūji, the oldest temple in Kyoto. It was once known as Hachiokadera, and houses a famous wooden image of Miroku, the Buddha of the Future, which was the first object to be dedicated as a national treasure in Japan.

 The Kannon statue young Noboru Tokuda encounters is no longer a hibutsu. It can be seen in the “treasure museum” where the  statue is also now housed. Photographs are not allowed.
